Beehiiv GEO Audit: Mentioned as Often as Kit — Cited a Third as Often
We ran 50 buying-intent prompts about email marketing platforms across 4 AI models. Beehiiv ties Kit and MailerLite on Share of Voice, but only 12% of its mentions carry a citation, against Kit's 46%. Here's the gap and how to close it.
Archived snapshot — first published 2026-07-13. This page is preserved exactly as it was when we first posted it, so links shared at the time keep working. For Beehiiv's latest numbers, see the current audit.
When someone asks an AI assistant "what's the best newsletter platform for a paid publication?", the model returns a short list — and that list is now a discovery channel you don't control. This audit measures where Beehiiv lands in those answers.
This is an observational snapshot, not a ranking of product quality. Every number describes what the models said during the scan window. None of them explains why.
Overview
Across the scan, Beehiiv held 25.5% Share of Voice measured the way our dashboard measures it — averaged across every model and every day in the window.
Put the four brands on one scale, though, and the interesting part shows up: nobody is winning.
| Brand | Share of Voice | Read |
|---|---|---|
| Beehiiv | 32.0% | Level with MailerLite |
| MailerLite | 32.0% | Level with Beehiiv |
| Kit | 30.3% | Inside the margin — effectively tied |
| Substack | 5.7% | Rarely surfaces on buying-intent prompts |
Beehiiv, MailerLite and Kit are separated by 1.7 points across the whole set. That is well inside the range where a re-run with different phrasing would reshuffle the order, so we read the top three as effectively tied, not ranked. The one gap large enough to call is Substack's: it shows up in these answers about a fifth as often as the other three.
When Beehiiv is named, it lands early — average position 1.6. The problem isn't placement.
What this scan covered
Being specific about the sample is the whole basis for trusting the rest of this page.
- 50 prompts, buying-intent phrasings around choosing an email/newsletter platform.
- 125 completed model runs. A further 33 runs errored and are excluded from every number here — a failed run is not a "no mention."
- 4 models returned data: DeepSeek, Kimi, Perplexity, Doubao.
- ChatGPT returned no data this round. It is in this account's scan roster; the runs did not land. Nothing on this page describes ChatGPT's behaviour, and you should not read the results as if it does.
- Perplexity's sample is small — a fraction of the runs the other models got. Its numbers are directional at best; we've flagged it wherever it appears.
The actual finding: Beehiiv gets mentioned, not cited
Share of Voice says who gets named. Citation rate says who gets backed by a source — and that is where the four brands stop looking alike.
| Brand | Mentions carrying a citation |
|---|---|
| Kit | 45.9% |
| MailerLite | 35.9% |
| Substack | 14.3% |
| Beehiiv | 12.2% |
Beehiiv is named as often as Kit and cited less than a third as often. The same split shows up in citation Share of Voice: Beehiiv holds 25.5% of the mentions but only 9.4% of the citations.
This matters because a cited recommendation survives. It's the one an assistant can ground, link, and repeat next month; an uncited mention is a name the model happened to recall, and it decays. Beehiiv is currently winning the conversation and losing the paper trail.
How each model answered
| Model | Beehiiv mention rate | Beehiiv SoV | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| DeepSeek | 47.7% | 29.4% | Strongest and best-sampled |
| Kimi | 37.7% | 34.8% | Highest SoV of the well-sampled models |
| Perplexity | 25.0% | 50.0% | ⚠️ Small sample — treat as directional |
| Doubao | 0.0% | 0.0% | Never named Beehiiv, in any prompt |
Doubao mentioned Beehiiv zero times across the entire scan — not rarely, never. It named competitors instead. For a category whose buyers increasingly ask in Chinese, that is not a weak result; it's an absence.
Where the citations actually come from
We looked at every source URL the models attached to answers in this category.
dev.tois the category's most-cited domain by a wide margin — 62 citations across the scan. Beehiiv is the associated brand on 3 of them. Competitors take 19.- The rest of the citation pool is long-tail:
sequenzy.com,sendpulse.com,mailtrap.io,smtpbd.com— small affiliate blogs and comparison pages, not authorities. beehiiv.comdoes not appear among the top 20 cited domains at all. Across this scan, the models grounded their claims about Beehiiv in other people's pages, never in Beehiiv's own.
Sentiment, for what it's worth, is not the problem: of the Beehiiv mentions carrying a sentiment read, 61.5% were positive and 0% negative. The models like Beehiiv. They just can't cite it.
One caveat on accuracy: 12.8% of Beehiiv mentions were flagged as potentially hallucinated — claims about the product that our judge couldn't reconcile with a source. That number tends to move together with the citation gap; models that can't find an authority tend to fill in.
GEO recommendations
Three moves, each one falling directly out of a number above.
- Publish something citable on your own domain. The finding isn't that
beehiiv.comis cited rarely — it's that it isn't in the top 20 at all, while Kit converts 46% of its mentions into sourced ones. A canonical, factual, regularly-updated pricing and feature-comparison page is the cheapest thing that can enter that citation pool. - Contest
dev.to. One domain supplies more citations in this category than any other, competitors hold 19 of its slots, and Beehiiv holds 3. This is the single most concentrated, most winnable citation surface in the category. - Treat Doubao as a market, not a metric. A 0% mention rate across 28 prompts is a structural absence in Chinese-language AI search, not a tuning problem. Nothing else on this page moves it.

We scanned the same prompt set a week earlier, so this page now has a trend rather than a single point.
| Date | Share of Voice | Mention rate |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-07-06 | 21.5% | 21.2% |
| 2026-07-13 | 28.5% | 33.0% |
Share of Voice rose 7.0 points week over week, and mention rate rose 11.8 — Beehiiv is being named meaningfully more often than it was seven days ago. Whether that holds or is scan-to-scan noise is exactly what the next re-audit answers. The citation gap, notably, did not move.
